Guy de Chauliac

Guy de Chauliac was an important person, that could be catalogued as an expert. He was  born in Chaulhac, Lozère (France) in 1300, and died on 25th July in 1368. In the Middle Ages, he was one of the biggest physicians, surgeon and the first man who introduced the concept of "dentist". So, he could be catalogued as an expert in the field of Health and Odontology. 

In the field of Odontology, he contributed with the idea of "dentist" and built an extraction tool practice it’s called “Pelican”. Also, when he lived, he practiced the orthopaedic. He wrote in Latin about surgery ("Chirurgia Magna"). Also, he was the doctor of Popes Benedicto XII, Clamentes VI, Inocecio VI and Urbano V, and survived the Black Death. 

He was important because, many actual advances and actual tools could not be made. His work was the base of future investigations and more advances in the field of Odontology.

I discovered this distinguished person in an odontological chronology in the “Museo Nacional de la Odontologia”, in Santiago. Also, I remember the “Pelican”, because it is remarkable and it really looks like a pelican.
